Reddit Is Getting a 'For You' Feed

Reddit is overhauling its homepage with separate "For You" and "Following" feeds, with the former combining posts from subscribed communities and algorithmic recommendations based on users' interests and activity. The Verge reports: It's a big shift for the platform, but not an entirely surprising one, as Reddit hasn't been shy about wanting to switch up the homepage. Earlier this year, the company announced it would be deprecating r/all, which surfaced posts that were popular across the platform, as part of its "ongoing efforts to simplify Reddit and improve Home feed personalization." "This new feed experience is a first step in helping drive discovery that leads to something novel and relevant -- an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest," Reddit says. "A more human internet is not just something you sit back and watch, it is something you find value in and want to participate in."

Microsoft’s AI future has fewer jobs

Vector illustration of the Microsoft logo.

To anyone listening closely to what Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been saying over the past couple of years, this week felt like the clearest sign yet that AI is about to fundamentally change the size of Microsoft's workforce. Microsoft is now offering voluntary buyouts to around 60,000 employees across the US, UK, Canada, and India.

It's the first time the company has presented such an offer to so many employees, expanding greatly upon the retirement offer that was limited to around 9,000 employees earlier this year. It's all part of an ongoing effort to avoid reducing investment in AI infrastructure by lowering Microsoft's operating cos …

Apple finally combined a toaster and a refrigerator

Fingers demonstrate multitouch on a touchscreen MacBook Pro.

For more than 15 years, Apple has had a pretty simple answer to the idea of a touchscreen MacBook: no. Yesterday, Apple finally decided to think different and announce one anyway. "You've gotta touch it to believe it," says Apple CEO John Ternus. He might be right: I haven't yet touched it, and I still can't quite believe it.

Steve Jobs first called touchscreen laptops "ergonomically terrible" in 2010, arguing that "touch surfaces don't want to be vertical" and that using one for an extended period of time makes "your arm want to fall off." He wasn't wrong about the fatigue aspect of using a touchscreen laptop for long periods of time, but …

DoorDash has announced that it's buying Instacart in a deal valued at approximately $17 billion. The acquisition will give DoorDash a bigger presence in online grocery delivery thanks to Instacart's established grocery marketplace and retailer partnerships, with Instacart CEO Chris Rogers saying the deal will make "online grocery more seamless and affordable" for millions of households.

DoorDash says the acquisition will give Instacart users acces to more than 50,000 additional stores and allow DashPass and Instacart Plus members to "pay one membership fee instead of two." The deal is expected to close "in the end of 2027 or the first half …
