Mozilla to Require Data-Collection Disclosure in All New Firefox Extensions

"Mozilla is introducing a new privacy framework for Firefox extensions that will require developers to disclose whether their add-ons collect or transmit user data..." reports the blog Linuxiac: The policy takes effect on November 3, 2025, and applies to all new Firefox extensions submitted to addons.mozilla.org. According to Mozilla's announcement, extension developers must now include a new key in their manifest.json files. This key specifies whether an extension gathers any personal data. Even extensions that collect nothing must explicitly state "none" in this field to confirm that no data is being collected or shared. This information will be visible to users at multiple points: during the installation prompt, on the extension's listing page on addons.mozilla.org, and in the Permissions and Data section of Firefox's about:addons page. In practice, this means users will be able to see at a glance whether a new extension collects any data before they install it.

Update PowerToys to kill the annoying theme changing bug

When Microsoft released PowerToys 0.95.0 recently there was excitement that it included a new module – Light Switch. But the excitement quickly turned to disappointed and confusion because of a bug that has managed to slip through the net. Microsoft was fairly quick to acknowledge that when it added the new Light Switch module to PowerToys, it should not have been enabled by default. But as it was enabled by default, many people wondered what on Earth was happening when their computer started randomly changing between Light and Dark Mode. Now, with the release of PowerToys 0.95.1, Microsoft has addressed… [Continue Reading]

How to Lead Meetings that Don’t Suck

Let’s be honest: most meetings suck.

Too many. Too long. Too boring.

People multitask. The energy drags. Everyone leaves wondering, “Couldn’t this have been an email?”

And yet, if you’re like the engineering managers I coach, you’re spending anywhere from 25% to 80% of your week in meetings. That’s a massive investment of your time.

So here’s the truth:

If you improve the effectiveness of your meetings by just 5%, the compounding results over your career are enormous.

By the way, not everything I see in engineering leadership is “safe” for LinkedIn. That’s why I write NSFL rants and trench notes only for my inner circle. If you want the real stories and insights, subscribe here.

The 3-Step Skill That Changes Everything

When I work with engineering leaders in our Blueprint program, I teach a simple skill that transforms meetings from a time sink into a value creation machine: priming.

Here’s how it works:

#1 – Shift the Energy

Stop the small talk. Stop waiting for stragglers.

Signal clearly: “Alright everyone, let’s get started.”

That quick shift pulls attention into the room and sets the tone.

#2 – Set the Frame

This is where most leaders fail.

Define exactly:

  • Why are we here?
  • What do we need to accomplish?
  • How will we operate?
  • What success looks like when we’re done.

It can be as short as 30 seconds, but it creates clarity and focus.

#3 – Ask for Acknowledgement

Don’t just dump the agenda and move on.

Ask: “Does that sound good to everyone? Are we aligned?”

Look for the nods, thumbs-up, or quick “yes.”

Once people commit, it’s easier to keep them engaged and on track.

Why It Works

Leaders who’ve practiced this skill in my mastermind report:

  • Meetings finishing early because there’s less wasted time.
  • Easier redirection when conversations go off track.
  • Teams showing up more engaged because results actually happen.
  • In some cases… realizing the meeting wasn’t even needed, and canceling it.

Let Me Leave You With This

Whoever primes and frames a meeting owns the meeting.

If it’s your meeting, that’s your job.

If nobody primes, step up and lead from the back of the room.

Because you can’t afford to spend 80% of your week in meetings that suck.

Game on.

Going to War with Burnout - Less Hours Isn't Your Only Option

I'm tackling a massive challenge today: burnout. While the standard advice usually involves working less, I want to show you a practical dimension of burnout you have more control over, focusing on increasing your agency and autonomy to manage chronic workplace stress more effectively. Burnout is classified by the ICD-11 as a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.

This episode includes practical advice for understanding and addressing burnout by shifting focus from reducing work volume to increasing control and resources.

  • Understand the three dimensions of burnout as classified by the ICD-11: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance/negativity toward the job, and reduced professional efficacy.
  • Discover why the amount of time you work is not a direct input to burnout, meaning working less is often impractical and may not solve the underlying issue.
  • Learn the core philosophy for addressing burnout: In order to control stress, provide control (meaning agency and autonomy).
  • Explore why stress is directly correlated to the ratio of demands placed on you versus the resources (including decision-making power, training, and tooling) you have to meet those demands.
  • I’ll give you practical ways to approach your manager to secure necessary resources, training, or mentoring to improve your professional efficacy and reduce job negativity.

Why Networking Still Beats Any Career Hack

This episode dives into one of the most "avoided" skills in career growth — networking that actually matters. Josh and Bob pull back the curtain on how real connections, not polished résumés, shape opportunities, careers, and even leadership credibility.

The conversation hits on a key truth: too many professionals are obsessing over self-improvement in isolation — certifications, frameworks, “personal brands” — while ignoring the real engine of progress: people. Relationships. Community.

This is not about transactional networking. It’s about building a system of genuine connection — one that gives, supports, and keeps you growing long after your current role.

Not sure where to start, you can give Bob's Moose Herd a shot.
